Amazon have confirmed they are finally launching the UK version of their Prime Instant Video service later this month, on February 26th.

Hugely successful in the US the Prime Instant Video brings Amazon Prime users free access to the entire Amazon range of movies and tv content and access to 500,000 Kindle books to borrow. In addition you get the same free next day shipping and other prime benefits.

This move has meant a reshuffle of their other video streaming product LoveFilm, which will be combined into the Prime brand. Lovefilm has been facing heavy competition from Netflix and Sky Now and it looks like Amazon has decided to bring this service into the main Amazon brand as they have done in the US where they had more than 20 million Prime subscribers worldwide by the end of 2013 and continue to show strong growth.

In the UK Amazon Prime Instant Video will cost £79 per year (a 35% saving on both Prime and LoveFilm individual costs) but if you sign up during the “countdown period” you can get the first year for just £49.

Tim Leslie, Vice President of Amazon Instant Video for the UK and Germany said:

We’ve worked hard to offer the best selection of TV shows and movies for Prime Instant Video—in fact, we’ve more than tripled selection since LOVEFiLM became part of the Amazon family. We also added high definition video and introduced apps for popular devices like Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Samsung and Sony TVs and iPads and iPhones. Customers who love movies and TV will love Amazon Prime Instant Video.
