Android Police claims to have photos of a Motorola-built early prototype smartwatch from 2013, codenamed Gem.

Google Motorola Smartwatch Claimed Images Leaked - ScreenAccording to their anonymous source, the device was allegedly going by the name Google Watch, and they believe the photos depict a model from early in 2013 that would likely have been updated nearer release date.

The smartwatch has a square screen, with a rocker button on the top edge, and a Motorola logo and back buttons which are possibly capacitive along the bottom, and a physical button on the side bottom left. The strap appears rubberised, and ‘latches’ into position.

There is also an image of the charging / connectivity option which is a cleverly hidden USB connector that fold out from the watch band.
