Samsung may have just announced its newest smartwatches with the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, but they’re not the only one at MWC 2014 with a new gadget to show off. Huawei has shown off several new pieces of tech including their smartwatch called the Huawei TalkBand B1.

Huawei’s new gadget is more of a fitness band than an actual ‘smartwatch’ like the Gear, but it’s packed full of features nonetheless. The smart band can help you keep track of your fitness by watching your calories burned and measuring your steps, but it can also track you while you sleep. It’s not as creepy as it sounds.talkband b1

When your head his the pillow the TalkBand B1 can record your how long you sleep and how well you sleep along. The device also features a ‘nap function’ of sorts which sounds great and a smart alarm to wake you from your slumber. The coolest feature of the TalkBand B1 is its cellular capabilities as it allows wireless calling with a pop-out Bluetooth 4.1 earpiece.

As for the specs, the Huawei TalkBand B1 sports a 1.4-inch flexible OLED display, a 90mAh battery, NFC, and Bluetooth. Its 14.6mm thick with the pop-out earpiece, and the talk time is said to be around 7 hours. That’s a lot longer than expected, but definitely doable considering the low power display. The TalkBand will run on devices running at least Android 2.3 and iOS 5.0 or later. huawei talkband b1

The TalkBand B1 is billed as the ‘world’s first hybrid smart band’ and while it’s definitely not a watch, it has the same basic capabilities of similar devices for the most part. No firm release date has been set, but the TalkBand B1 will come to China in March and see a wider release (Japan, Russia, Western Europe) sometime later this year.
