The ZTE Grand S2 Could Be the First Ever Smartphone to Have 4GB of RAM

Never mind what the latest Android releases have; the HTC One (M8) and the Samsung Galaxy S5 may bicker and squabble over whose 2GB of RAM and Snapdragon quad-core processors is the fastest, but this is paltry in comparison to what could possibly be the next big smartphone on campus. That smartphone is set to be the ZTE Grand S2 that will also run on Android and if early rumours and suggested specs are anything to go by, every other Android handset maker had better watch out.

The sudden need for Samsung and HTC to check out their competitors a little more is down to the ZTE Grand S2 passing through the Chinese version of the FCC, listing a whopping 4GB of RAM as it did so, making it one of the most powerful phones on the market. The reason it would oust its competitors in the specs race is that 4GB of RAM is the maximum that you can get out of the 32-bit processors that many of today’s high-end phones run on and not only is this impressive, the ZTE Grand S2 would be a monument in itself as running on 4GB of RAM would make it the very first smartphone to do so.

With its other specs, it manages a mostly decent level of impressiveness, with a 5.5 inch 1080p display to beautify things and that screen is able to display the gorgeous photos taken by the phone’s 13 megapixel camera too. The 3,000mAh battery will also give the phone’s battery life a super-powered punch, meaning that users will get a good use out of it before a mad dash to the phone’s charger. Where the ZTE Grand S2 is a little disappointing, however, is in its operating system, with that 4GB of RAM slightly wasted on the phone’s Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system, suggesting that the handset’s maker had to trade off the latest Android OS (Android 4.4 KitKat) in favour of the incredible size of RAM, but whether this plays out well for the phone or puts consumers off is yet to be seen.

We’ll keep you posted once we know more.
