Huawei Ascend P7 official, 6.5mm thin with 8MP front camera


The thinnest smartphone in the world finally has a successor, the Huawei Ascend P7. Announced today, the new Android smartphone brings changes on the hardware and software side, along with a new crown for the thinnest smartphone on the planet.

Bringing a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 display into the mix, the Ascend P7 stacks up well against the HTC One (M8) and Galaxy S5 in most regards. Internally the Ascend P7 is running a 1.8GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and a 32GB microSD card.

At 6.5mm thin, the Huawei Ascend P7 really hits a home-run on the thinnest test. The build quality of the Ascend P7 really makes us wonder how they got it so thin, definitely a feat we thought only someone like Apple could pull off.

The cameras on the Ascend P7 are quite interesting, not only because Huawei has packed them full of new software features to enhance images, but because the front camera has an 8MP sensor and the rear has a 13MP sensor.

Rear cameras having 13MP sensors is nothing new, but the 8MP front facing camera surely is worth discussing, even if it begs the question, who actually wants to take high-quality selfies?

The big factor here is Huawei is pushing out rather impressive cameras on both the front and rear cameras, instead of just making the front a 2MP bad camera for video call and the rear camera the immersive photo experience.

Software on the Huawei Ascend P7 is more acceptable than it was last year, even though we still feel like the Chinese company has a few more efforts to go before they can even come close to some of the better Android skins on the market.

Emotions 2.3 has had some new updates and the Ascend P7 will come with anti-virus software, network management and a permissions manager. The UI has been overhauled to a much cleaner and usable state, although once again, there is still room for more work.

We should see the Huawei Ascend P7 hit markets later this year, although US will not be getting it for a while.
