Is Samsung working on a competitor to Google Glass?

The tech world is full of people trying to one-up their competition, and no product is safe – even Google Glass. That’s exactly what Samsung may be up to according to a new report out of Korea.

According to a new report, Samsung is set to launch its own version of Google Glass in the form of a “Gear Glass” wearable. The device could possibly be an earpiece/display combo instead of a full set of spectacles ala Google Glass. The sources went on to say it will run on the Tizen OS instead of Android, and that the company has “secured” a large amount of smart glass-related tech and patents.

This isn’t the first time we’ve caught wind of Samsung working on a Glass competitor – those rumors started late last year. It is interesting though as Glass is expensive, not widely available and a wee bit controversial; there’s also no release date for the general public. Samsung’s version of Glass is said to be ready for primetime in September of this year which would roughly be a year apart from when the original Galaxy Gear was released.

Will Samsung put out something to trump Google Glass before it even goes global? Will it have that ugly dimpled look of the S5? There are more questions than answers at this point, but rest assured that we’ll know more soon if this is legit as something will “leak” out soon enough.
