MinuteQuest Review

RPGs are usually lengthy affairs that can stretch on for weeks or months depending on the game. MinuteQuest is an RPG that does things just a wee bit different as it most of your games will be over in a matter of minutes…

You start each game in castle where you can gear up before heading out into the wild world of MinuteQuest. The goal of the game is to get as far as possible before you bite the dust which is much easier said than done. To move forward you tap on the right side of the screen and if you tap left you’ll move backwards a bit. Want to fight the monster sitting in your path? Just tap to walk into it. The attack may be automatic, but the faster you tap, the faster you’ll attack.minutequest

The tapping mechanic is simple, but insanely addictive once you get a feel for things. It’s fun to just blow through a few screens taking out enemies in one whack, but you do have to be careful. When your life gauge runs out you die, but it will recharge around a point per second. This makes things interesting as you’re tempted to just blast through the enemies on the screen, but it can pay to be patient. Needless to say, no matter what you do you’re going to die eventually and head back to the castle.

As MinuteQuest is an RPG, you’ll get to buy new gear, level up your character, and boost your stats. You’ll encounter shops every so often along with healing huts that can bring your character back from the brink for a price. You will learn to love those huts quickly. Your character can equip any gear that’s available in the shops and you can even have a pet follow along to assist in battle. Pets, boss battles, troves of weapons and armor — there’s a lot to take in in the world of MinuteQuest.

MinuteQuest is a side-scrolling RPG that lives up to its name as most of your quests starting out will definitely go under a minute. The game is deceptively deep as well and while I won’t give anything away, I will say there have been plenty of surprises so far. The quests are designed to be short, but it’s a moot point as you’re going to have a difficult time putting the game down once you get rolling. Great game.

If you’re looking for a retro RPG you can play for minutes or hours or end, MinuteQuest is just the thing for you. You can pick up MinuteQuest for free on Google Play or the App Store.
