Apple iOS 8 Split-screen Mode Shown Off In Video

ios8 split screen featured

There were strong rumours about a key new feature in iOS8 dubbed Split Screen, the ability to split the screen on the iPad display to have two Apps open at the sametime.

It would be another “catch up” item as both Android and Windows have this ability already, but the keynote at WWDC was concluded with no mention of it.

Believed to be delayed as it simply wasn’t ready, the feature has surfaced being demo’d in a video of a¬†SpringBoard beta, showing the ability to split the screens at 3 different positions using a two fingered ‘drag’.

Check out the video below:

So, the question now is will this feature simply ‘appear’ in the final release of iOS8, or will it be introduced in subsequent Beta versions as and when it finally becomes ready. Surely Apple will need to throw this out to developers in advance of release so they can prepare their Apps to work in this new split screen mode.

As you can see from the video, various sharing and other menus fail to open within the confines of their reduced space, and this is something that developers may need time to work on themselves.
