ASUS unveils the 4K Zenbook NX500 at Computex

Computex is under way in Taipei today and while ASUS took the stage to show off several new products, we’re only going to focus on one – the Zenbook NX500.

ASUS announced a couple of new Transformer Books along with MeMo pads, a monitor, router and portable all-in-one, but the Zenbook NX500 got our attention as it’s a slick new ultrabook with a 4K screen.

The Zenbook NX500 is a 15.6-inch laptop that’s built for speed. A Core i7 processor will make sure things speed along while a 2GB NVIDIA GTX 850 will handle the graphics. Both those work alongside the big 4K touch display to produce an eye-popping resolution of 3840 x 2160. The NX500 can handle 16GB of RAM and up to a 512GB SSD, and as you’d expect, pricing will vary depending on your preference.

As for the build quality, the Zenbook NX500 definitely reminds of us of the MacBook Pro and that’s not a bad thing. The Zenbook has a premium build with an aluminum casing, and it’s relatively slim at 19mm thick. It’s touted as an Ultrabook and while it’s not the lightest one around, it’s also not the heaviest as it weighs 2.2kg which is comparable to the 15-inch MacBook Retina Pro which weighs in at 2.02kg.

Pricing has yet to be announced for the Zenbook NX500, but it’s safe to say it won’t be cheap with those specs. The 4K Ultrabook will run Windows 8.1 out of the box, and is expected to be released later this year.
