A few days ago, the Samsung Gear S leaked ahead of IFA 2015, because leaks… Well, today Samsung made things official by showing off the new smartwatch at IFA, and we’re here to give you the skinny on Sammy’s fancy new wearable.

The Samsung Gear S is the device previously referred to as the Samsung Gear Solo. It’s a 3G connected smartwatch which means you don’t have to stay tethered to your phone, and it’s a curved timepiece that’s going to look great on your wrist. Looks like Samsung took the “new design language” concept to heart this year and it shows with their new lineup.

The big feature for the Samsung Gear S is obviously its ability to make and receive calls on a 3G network, but it also has a full QWERTY keyboard and a slick design. Samsung went with a 2-inch Super AMOLED display, so it’s the equivalent of having a mini version of the Galaxy S on your wrist – bright and colorful. As for the Samsung Gear S specs, here we go…

  • 2” Super AMOLED display 360 x 480
  • Dual-Core 1.0GHz processor
  • 512MB of RAM
  • 4GB of Storage
  • 300mAh battery
  • 2G, 3G, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi
  • IP67 Dust & Water Resistant
  • Tizen OS

We’ve scoffed at Samsung design language in the past, and it’s safe to say that nobody was overly impressed with the last iteration in the Gear lineup. The Samsung Gear S is Samsung’s sweetest wearable by far, and we have a feeling it will be a big seller for the company if the price is right. Unfortunately, we don’t know how much that price will be although the company has said to expect the Gear S in October.

What’s the price point to entice you to pick up the new Gear S smartwatch?
