Ridesharing app BlaBlaCar hits 10 million members Featured

BlaBlaCar, the world’s most popular ridesharing app, has today announced that 10 million drivers and passengers are now using the service as part of the global increase in the sharing economy, with an average of more than 2 million people using the service every month.

Here in the UK we have also seen an 87% increase in rides shared since the beginning of the year, proving that more Brits than ever are looking to save money, meet new people, and join the fast-growing people-powered transport network. Attracting drivers and passengers of all ages and walks of life, ridesharing is a great example of how virtual connections can be brought into the real world to make a positive difference to our lives.

Many of us have shared a ride with friends before, but increasingly, we’re using apps like BlaBlaCar to find and connect with others ahead of a long-distance journey. BlaBlaCar connects drivers with empty seats with paying passengers going the same way, so both save money on their travel.

According to the RAC, 800,000 British households spend at least 31% of their disposable incomes on running a vehicle. With the cost of fuel and rail travel only set to rise, travellers are seeking alternative ways to make it from A to B without breaking the bank.

Ridesharing costs an average of 79% less than using the train, so is fast become the UK’s most cost-effective mode of transport, helping people save thousands of pounds every year.
