Clash of Android Smartwatches: Moto 360 vs. LG G Watch R

Moto 360 vs LG G Watch R - Featured

This is an in-depth look comparing the Moto 360 and LG Watch R to see which is better.

Moto 360

The Motorola 360 is a stylish Android smartwatch with an integrated Google now software. It allows you to access texts and emails on its circular screen. You can check the daily weather forecast and it is capable of voice recognition, so you can dictate the text messages you want to send without having to open the mobile phone inside your pocket.

It has a 1.56 inch circle-shaped LCD display which is elegantly designed and the pebble steel surrounding the edges makes it modern-looking. However, the LCD screen is not a full circle because a small ambient light sensor is installed at the bottom which looks like a black bar. There is a single button located on the right side of the bezel and a small microphone hole can be seen on the left side.

The display has a 230 x 290 screen resolution and 205 pixels per inch which is fine but some images tend to appear slightly pixelated. The housing is made of stainless steel and the leather strap makes it suitable to wear on any occasion.

The leather used was made by Horween Company. They are famous for being an exclusive supplier of the NFL and their leather is really durable with no stretch marks. If you want a more sophisticated look, you can also replace it with a metal strap which is sold separately.

The screen display of the Motorola 360 wearable gadget is always on and it notifies you of the current time even when it goes into a power-saving mode which lowers the screen brightness. It uses Gorilla Glass 3 on the screen display to prevent any scratches from daily use and the smartwatch has a light sensor that adjusts the screen brightness automatically.

It has a pedometer that measures your heart activity during workouts and there are tons of Android Wear apps that you can download from the Google Play Store.

Battery life

The Motorola 360 uses a new way of charging its battery wirelessly through a Qi charging dock. When the battery is fully charged, the watch will notify you by sounding off an alarm. But I am disappointed in the poor battery life of the Motorola 360.

It has a capacity of 320mah and nearly lasts a whole day if fully charged. However, the battery runtime becomes longer when its firmware is updated. Turning off the ambient light sensor can also save battery power. It takes 2 hours before the battery becomes fully charged and you can use it for a 24-hour period.

LG G Watch R

The LG G Watch R has a wonderful circular screen and it can display in full circle. The watch uses an OLED screen which consumes less battery power and it’s bright enough to be used outdoors under the sun. Images on the display appear vibrant and sharp. This Android Wear watch allows you to access texts, emails and check the daily weather.

The stainless steel frame of LG G Watch R looks well-designed and it comes with a leather strap that can be replaced. The G Watch R is certified IP67 waterproof and you can immerse it underwater for 30 minutes. The display has a 320 x 320 screen resolution and the images looks more vivid and sharper than the Moto 360.

The G Watch R is available in black and silver. It has a thick design which looks similar to a regular diving watch. The bezel is equipped with numbers and winding key, but they are for display only because these parts are not movable and the winder works as a power button. The strap fits comfortably on the wrist and it’s made of calf leather. If you want to change the strap, you can use any standard watch strap.

It has a heart-rate monitor that can be useful when doing a physical exercise such as running or climbing hills. It is capable of voice recognition, so you can dictate the text messages you want to send without having to open the mobile phone inside your pocket. There are tons of Android Wear apps that you can download from the Google Play Store.

Like the Moto 360, the G Watch R also comes with many sensors including a compass, gyro and accelerometer. But the main disadvantage of this device is that it lacks a GPS, so you won’t be able to know your current location.

Battery Life

It comes with a 410mah battery which is bigger than the Moto 360. When in power-saving mode, the watch uses only 10% of the battery and you can use it continuously for 2 days without having to charge.

If given the choice to pick between the two, I would choose the LG G Watch R because it has a longer battery life and it is waterproof. But if you are looking for a more stylish smartwatch that has more features, I would definitely recommend the Moto 360 because it is slimmer and the design is absolutely stunning.
