There has been no shortage of Nexus news lately, and we’ve been following the developments behind the Nexus 6 and HTC Nexus 9 for months. Google made their 2014 Nexus lineup official this afternoon, and we’re going to give you the scoop on the new Nexus slate.

There are quite a few QHD smartphones out there, but the tablet selection is sparse. The HTC Nexus 9 will join those thin ranks with its 8.9-inch IPS LCD display that carries a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536. Your family photos and flicks should look lovely, and the tablet will have no problem running them thanks to a 64-bit Tegra K1 SoC and 2GB of RAM.

The Nexus 9 will come with 16 or 32GB of storage, and you’ll be able to snap some pics with the 8MP/1.6MP camera combo. A 6,700mAh battery will provide around 9 hours of juice, and it will ship with the latest and greatest version of Android. Yup, you’ll get Android Lollipop before anyone else, and you can expect future updates to arrive quickly.

In terms of design, the HTC Nexus 9 certainly looks like it belongs in the Nexus lineup. It does have front-facing Boomsound speakers like the M8, but it doesn’t scream HTC. If you were hoping for a slab that looks like a huge HTC One, you’ll have to wait until next year. Only once accessory has been announced thus far with a magnetic keyboard folio, but you can expect a slew of accessories to pop up in the next few weeks.

The new Nexus 9 is going to be a very popular tablet, and pre-orders are set to begin on October 17 with a “sale” date of November 3rd. Pricing for the 16GB Wi-Fi model is $399 while the 32GB WiFi edition will set you back $479. If you want the 32GB LTE Nexus 6 the price is listed at $599.

Are you planning on picking up a new Nexus slate or are you waiting to see what the iPad Air 2 brings to the table?
