Pre-orders fire up for the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact

The new Nexus 9 has gotten a lot of attention, but it may be a bit large for some. If you’re looking for a smaller slate on the Android side of things, a great new option has just gone up for pre-order with the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.

The Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact specs show a speedy slate with a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 under the hood. An Adreno 330 GPU will handle the graphics, and 3GB will make sure things keep humming along. A 4,500mAh battery will keep the lights on, and it will run Android 4.4.4 KitKat straight out of the box.

The Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact comes with 16GB of storage that can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. The cameras clock in at 8.1MP and 2.2MP respectively, and all the usual bells & whistles are included like WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC. The display is nothing to scoff at either as it’s an 8-inch panel with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200.

While the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact specs can’t measure up to the Nexus 9, it does have a couple of nifty features. As with most of Sony’s gadgets, the Z3 Tablet Compact is water and dust resistant with IP68 certification. It also allows you to use “Remote Play” with the PlayStation 4 as well which is extremely cool if you already own the console.

Most of Sony’s products aren’t cheap, and the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is no exception. It’s going to set you back $499 straight from Sony, and pre-orders have begun if you’re interested in picking one up. It has plenty of horsepower, but how do you feel about the tablet’s price?
