The Droid Turbo is Official, coming October 30th for $199

Motorola Droid Turbo

Motorola has been churning out Droid handsets for years. That said, it’s been a while since we’ve seen one that could stand toe-to-toe with the top flagships around. This afternoon, that changed when Motorola and Verizon took the wraps of the Droid Turbo.

The Motorola Droid Turbo has leaked like a sieve since word of a new Droid smartphone first hit the net a couple of months ago. While today’s unveiling didn’t show us anything new, it gives us a look at what we should expect from most manufacturers next year in terms of specs on regular sized “flagship” smartphones.

  • 5.2-inch QHD 2560 x 1440 display
  • Snapdragon 805 2.7GHz processor
  • Adreno 420 GPU
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 32GB or 64GB of storage
  • 21MP rear camera + 2MP front-facing camera
  • 3,900mAh battery
  • Android KitKat 4.4

The Droid Turbo will come with KitKat, but Lollipop is said to be on the way. It will also have Moto Assist and Display to go along with Motorola’s Turbo Charging tech. The latter is said to give you 8 hours of usage in only 15 minutes of charge time, but you’ll have to use a special charger (included) to pull of the quick charge. It’s also water resistant/repellent to an extent.

If you wanted the Nexus 6 to be smaller, you just found your answer in the Motorola Turbo Droid. It’s made by the same company, has high-end internals, and it’s not a phablet. On the downside, it’s not running stock Android and Verizon tends to update their phones slower than other carriers. If you’re interested in the Droid Turbo, it goes on sale October 30th with the 32GB model coming in at $199, and the 64GB Ballistic Nylon model for $249.
