Kickstarter Pick of the Week: The Mind4 Autonomous Drone

Some find Drones to be frightening, but most of us know they are here to stay. Kickstarter is a great place to find cheap Drone projects and cool mobile tech, and our Kickstarter Pick of the Week combines both. Ready to meet the Mind4 Autonomous Drone?

The last time we covered a project of this nature it was the Nixie Drone, and while both gadgets share some similarities, they are quite different. The Mind4 Autonomous Drone is like having a flying smartphone at your command as it runs Android and has a spec sheet that reads like a smartphone release.

The Mind4 Drone has a quad-core ARM low processor clocked at 2GHz, 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM, and 6GB of eMMC flash storage. It also sports a 5,000mAh 3S juice box (20 mins) and has a range of around 1.2miles with a maximum speed of 40mph. Throw in a 720p HD camera with zoom, a handful of ports and the app, and you’ve got yourself an interesting autonomous drone.

The Mind4 Autonomous Drone makes use of the Android platform, and is geared for those looking to snap killer hands-free shots from above. The little copter is sans GPS and uses “computer vision” technology to track you or a subject on the go; it’s also made to be simple so that pros or rookies will be comfortable with the setup. Once airborne, you can even control the Mind4 Drone with gestures so you can beckon it to come closer or tell it to land.

At this time, the Mind4 Autonomous Drone has raised around $10,301 of their planned $100,000 funding goal and there are 29 days left in the Kickstarter campaign. The ‘Super Early Bird’ backers can pick up a Mind4 Drone for $899 with a delivery date of September 2015 while there are spots left.
