Meet The Boss, an upcoming TOR-enabled smartphone

If you keep up with the news, you know cyber security has been a popular topic of late. You may feel safe on your mobile, and you probably are for the most part, but some people want to keep things a bit more anonymous. If you’re one of those folks, you’ll want to take a look at the upcoming device known as the Boss smartphone.

The Boss smartphone is a bit of an oddball, let’s just get that out of the way. It’s a smartphone, but certainly won’t look like one thanks to a huge 7-inch FHD display. It’s well beyond phablet range, but the rest of the specs aren’t half bad as you’ll get a Mediatek octa-core processor, 16GB of storage and a 8MP/2MP camera combo. Rounding things out are Bluetooth, WiFi, 4G, Android 5.0, dual-SIM capabilities and a 3,000mAh battery.

As for the increased security, the Boss phone comes with Tor built-in at the root level. This is something you’re not going to find on another handset, but something you may not necessarily want built into your handset at a root level. Either way, remember that nothing is truly safe these days and your best weapon is generally common sense when it comes to cyber security.

Unlike a lot of smartphones we’ve covered, the Boss phone is a crowdfunded gadget and it’s live on Indiegogo. At this time, there are around 50 days on the clock and the team behind the Boss needs to reach $150,000 to get the device to the masses. The first batch of ‘Early Birds’ is expected to roll out in October if successfully funded, and you’ll be able to pick one up for $329 unlocked while supplies last.
