3D printing has come a long way in a short time. We used to discuss how pricey even the most basic printers were, but the price has come down, and all sorts of new tech has emerged. The folks behind Autodesk are no strangers to 3D printing, and they’ve just released the Autodesk Tinkerplay app on Google Play.

3D printing might seem difficult to some, even though the technology has gotten simpler over the years. Running the machine can be as simple as pressing a button and watching it work, but sculpting objects in 3D to send to your printer takes some knowledge. Unless you have the Tinkerplay app that is, as it makes 3D printing easy for everyone.

The Tinkerplay app allows you to build your own figures from a library of parts. While it may sound limited, it’s not as there is a set of tools that allow you to modify the parts. It still takes some getting used to, but within an hour or two you’ll be amazed with what you can create. It also takes a lot of the guesswork out of it for beginners by letting you print something without having to worry about supports or material.

Whenever your creation is complete, the Tinkerplay app shows you how much material it will take to print your figure along with the printing time. You can adjust the size before finalizing things, and the app supports several printers like the MakerBot, Dremel, and Ultimaker.

Tinkerplay isn’t a full-fledged 3D printing app, but it will allow you to make some groovy action figures on the fly. The amount of customization is surprising as well, and it’s a great way to break people in to 3D modeling who’ve never tried their hand at it before. If you want to give it a whirl, Autodesk’s Tinkerplay app is free to download for Android, Windows, and iOS devices.

Unbelievable that there’s an app that makes 3D printing possible for anyone. It’s helpful that the app includes a layout of what materials are needed to print in 3D.
