Third generation of the Moto X set to debut this fall

Now for some news, that doesn’t come as much of a surprise, but is great to hear nonetheless. Smartphone manufacturers don’t typically let us know of a device release months before an announcement, but today we got confirmation of one – the 2015 edition of the Moto X.

Recently Motorola’s President, Rick Osterloh, held a Q&A session on Twitter to let fans of the company as questions. As you’d expect, most of those turned towards upcoming products, and while we found out the company will not make a “Motorola” branded tablet anytime soon, Osterloh let the cat out of the bag when it comes to this year’s version of the Moto X.

When asked if we can expect the next-gen of the Moto X in the same timeframe, Osterloh replied that they “try to stay on a roughly annual cycle for all our products including Moto X.” While that doesn’t give us a release date, that lets us know to expect it in September. That also tells us that we should see the next-generation of the Moto 360 in September as well, hopefully sans the ‘flat tire’ found on the original.

While we don’t know what the Moto X 2015 will bring to the table, it’s not hard to speculate going off the last model. Moto should go for the Snapdragon 810 or possibly the 815, and 3GB of RAM sounds about right as 4GB is still overkill for most folks. The only other feature that could get a major upgrade would be the display, so it will be interesting to see if Moto goes QHD in 2015. If so, expect the handsets to sell even better than they did last year.

What would you like to see from the 2015 edition of the Moto X?
